Dupont News Mayor Gets Way On Police Payroll The 1967 budget for Dupont Borough has been permanently a- dopted this past Monday and has the unique distinction of being the highest and is record high for the borough in the incoming and outgoing departments. The expenditures and income in the budget is set at exactly $62, 000. approximately $20.000. higher than last's year budget, and does have provisions for floating a $16, 000 bond issue. The budget has provision for many new endeavors to be started in the borough during the current riscal year in conjunction with meeting state and federal matching funds for qualfications.

New Payroll The budget also carries provisions for starting a new payroll system for members of the Dupont Police Force. The new provisions as described by Councilman Fred Tomaszewski, Third ward, state that the members of the police department will be paid on the hourly rates of at least one dollar per hour commencing sometime this coming summer. Mayor Albert Costello, stated sometime ago that he would veto the budget if the payroll system for the police force was not changed from previous years and at this time of $15 per month for patrolmen, sergeants, and assistants while the police chief is paid at a flat salary of $25 per month. Mayor Costello who at one time served on the local police department took exception especially on the aformentioned salaries, indicating that many have been appointed to the department simply to collect their salaries in the past without doing any police work for the borough. Allan Larnard of Lidy Road was named Dupont's new Zoning officer, replacing Martin Piechota of Penn avenue. Martin Satkowski of Center was named to replace Dominick Cocco of Ziegler street, who also resigned when Kaminski, Boyer, Piechota, resigned at last month's council meeting.

Mr. Satkowski is a member of the faculty of the Greater Pittston area school district and also is director of the Polish American hour heard over Radio Station WPTS every Sunday. VFW Ladies Will Meet The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 4909 Dupont, will hold a regular meeting at the Post Home, Main Street, on Tuesday, commencing at 8 P.M. Delinquent members are request ed to attend the meeting and meet their obligation in arrearage dues. A report will be made on the recent trip to the Veterans Hospital.

Rereshments will be served after the meeting. Jean Rosato and Clara Slonina will be hostesses for the meeting. NEW YORK TRIP Reservations for the New York Bus trip sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post were closed as of this past week. The trip will be held on Saturday, April first it was announced by Mrs. Elsie Sipko.

Damage Being Done To Plant Allan E. Gutstein, Wilkes-Barre owner and operator of the Steingut Dress Company which operates its dress manufacturing business in the former Polonia Hall Building, Everhart Street, Dupont, reported to the Dupont Police Force this past week that excessive property damage is being done to the building by person or persons unknown in damaging the out side walls and breaking the large windows that exist in the building. The damage to date has run into many dollars and the person or persons caught defacing the building will be charged with all damages done thus far. The premises are currently being patrolled by the Dupont Police force and other police units of the county, Short Notes Joseph "Yeddy" Francis of Main Street, who was a patient at the Taylor hospital for serveral weeks is now recuperating at his home- Joe is co-owner of Francis's Service Station and is a former Dupont Council man for the second ward. They are former Dupont natives and Mrs. Stanislaw is the former Betty Pramick of Main Street. Jackie West co-operator and manager of Dupont Bowling Lanes participated in the Professional Bowlers Association Tour in Edison, New Jersey, this past week.

Bowling At Dupont Lanes Action in American league this week shows that Lulac Oil past stopped the Plains Polish War Vets for the full three point count with Packy Piechota and Gayne Malinics leading the way with 583 and 556 series respectively, while Stanley Szura and Len Kalinoski paced for the losers with 568 and 509 series The victory put Lulac in a tie for first place with the Vets. Adonizio's Cafe got back into the winning column by taking 3 points from Henn's with Johnny Casper tippling the maples for a 597 series, assisted by Rusty Rusnock's 519 series. For the losers it was Frank Lalak with 511 and Augie Henn with 545- Deitzers won three points from T-M Trucking with Henry Hokien lading the way with a 548 series, assisted by F.

Trager's 577 count. For the truckers it was Tony Freida and Chester Gutoski with 464 and 474 series respectively, Standing Lulac, 10-5; Vets, 10- Deitzers, 9-6; Adonizio's 7-8; Hens, 6-9; T--M, 3-12. Magic Circle League Niverts Steel won three points from Imperials with Adam Chmiel and A. Zondlo leading the squad with 503 and 500 series, while P. Zongila and E- Tokash paced for the losers with 482 and 465 respectively.

Steinguts won three pointe Hawks with Stella Malinies Alma Swanek leading the way 158-418 and 143-371 series tively. For Hank's it was Coot Minich and Dot Maros with 184 452 and 149-378 series. For the losers it was Jean Feeney with 153 and Jean Warick with 161-382. only the mebers of the police department who actually come out will be paid under the new system.

Around Town It was reliably reported this past week that former councilman Patrick of the first ward has announced his political support in favor of Frank Russ Polumbo of Smith street, who was one of the first to announce his candidacy for the council seat in the first ward- Mr. Polumbo further stated that one of his supported in the first ward is being begs by GOPers in the ward to seat the office on the GOP ticket against Polumbo and Frank Doesn't know what the final outcome will be regarding his foreid, but stated the picture was a lot clearer after March 7, which is the last day to file petitions. John Panuski of Harding street, who had twice tried for a council seat in the third ward unsuccessfully in prior election is not running for any office in the borough in the 1967 election. John has been consulted by many of his friends to try again but nixed the idea out at least for 1967.

Former Tax Collector Chester Szumski of Lackawanna active in Dupont GOP politics. Some degree of uncertainty still remains as to Joseph Vida, John Bryk and Frank Galick, whether they will seek another term from their respective ward to hold their council seats which expire with the end of 1967. All are members of the GOP party and minority members of the current council body. The Ladies Auxiliary to the American Legion Post 657, Dupont will hold a spaghetti dinner at Dupont Hose Hall on April 11. Dinner will be served from 5 to 9 p.m.

Kenneth Bittenbender, an official of the Pennsylvania Power and Light Company addressed the membership of the Dupont Lions Club at the dinner meeting held this past Monday at the Echo Diner. Bittenbender emphasized that some of the Industrial giants planning to locate in this region are famous name brands. The Ladies Auxiliary to the Dupont Hose Company will hold a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, March 11, at the Dupont Hose Hall Building. Mrs. Joseph Shuleski is president of the Ladies Organization.

Members of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society announced this past week the organization will hold Its annnual outing this year in July. The place and exact date will be selected at a future meeting.
